Extensions: The breakdown

Extensions are a great way to get the long and voluminous hair you’ve been looking for! Although the process may seem daunting, there are a lot of options to get the perfect personalized look for you. Whether extensions are just a stepping stone or permanent part of your routine - your dream hair is just a consultation away!

Let’s break down what Image Solutions Salon has to offer! From tape-ins, to fusion, to hand-tied wefts - we’ll find your perfect match!

WEFT/SEWN-IN - one of the most popular extension methods. Involves placing beads on the hair as an anchor and attaching the weft (row of hair) to the beads via sewing.

FUSION - another one of the most popular extensions methods. Involves heating up a bond to fuse the extensions to your hair.

TAPE-INS - an easy to install method that involves taping the extension to your natural hair.

Now that you have a better understanding of the different types of extensions, let’s dive into what to expect at your Consultation and your 1st appointment. With your Consultation, you can expect a lot of information! Your stylist will break down what extension method is right for you, choose your extension colors, sign contracts, and explain how much you can expect cost-wise for your hair, 1st appointment, and refresh appointments. If you choose to move forward with extensions, you will be asked to put down 50% of the cost of your hair and possibly whichever products your stylist recommends.

FAQ’s

Q: Why can't I get a quote over the phone?

A: We cannot give a quote over the phone because there are so many factors that go into the cost of the services (ie, what type of hair, what length, if you need color services, etc.). Also it is imperative that your stylist see you in person in order to get the perfect match and see if extensions are truly right for you.

Q: Where does the hair come from?

A: Our salon works with two manufacturers, Babe and Bombshell. Both are 100% remy hair and ethically sourced. (Remy hair is when the cuticle is still attached to the hair).

Q: Can I make payments on my hair?

A: Yes! Our salon does offer a payment plan for your hair, however we do require 50% of the cost upfront and the rest is broken down over the course of six months. Any services (including move up or color appointments) that are needed, you will need to pay in full on the day of the appointment(s).

Q: Are extensions high maintenance and a lot of work?

A: Short answer, yes. With extensions there is a lot of responsibility on BOTH the stylist and the client. The stylist can create your vision and give you the hair and the look, but it is up to the client to do proper after care to maintain the look of the extensions outside of the salon. Failure to care for your extensions can result in matted hair, hair falling out, and a shortened lifespan of your extensions. If they become too matted, too see through or discolored due to lack of care, we will need to purchase new hair.

Q: Can you alter the extensions?

A: Your stylist can alter the color of the extensions, however, you cannot lighten them. Any fashion colors or brighter pieces will need to be purchased as such.

Q: How do I care for my extensions?

A: Caring for your extensions is unique to each individual. All care instructions will be discussed during your consultation with your stylist.

Q: Is it normal for my head to hurt after my 1st session?

A:Yes, your scalp isn't used to the heavy duty process of extensions. There is now an added weight to your scalp and your hair has been handled for sometimes hours on end, so a little bit of soreness is normal. Your stylist may recommend having someone massage your scalp and the discomfort should go away within a week - 48 hours at the earliest. However, if you are in extreme pain or something feels like it is pulling, contact your stylist immediately for you may need an adjustment.

Q: Can I bring my own hair?

A: Short answer, No. Due to the lack of quality control from consumer sites, we prefer to use hair from our trusted sources. We know the longevity and quality of the sources we use.

Extensions After Care

We’re so glad you’ve chosen us as your extension destination! Now that you’ve taken the first steps on your journey, here’s what to do next. This is a simplified after care method in case your printed copy is lost.  If you have specific questions pertaining to your hair, please contact your stylist.

  • Please do not wash your hair until at least 48-72 hours after your installation appointment. Doing so can compromise your freshly installed extensions.

  • After washing, blow dry the hair completely. Do not leave your hair damp, you can and will have a mold/mildew problem.

  • Brush your extensions thoroughly at least twice a day. DO NOT leave tangled.

  • At night sleep with a bonnet or silk pillowcase and have your hair in a loose braid or pony.

  • It is important to use the products and only the products recommended by your stylist.

  • Oil the ends

  • Massage your scalp or have someone do so for you

  • Set up your next appointment and move-up so you stay on schedule.

  • Do not get sunscreen on your extensions, they will become discolored and tangled due to the chemicals used in sunscreen.

  • Do not swim (in chlorine or ocean water, etc) with your extensions, it will ruin them.

Things you will need to purchase after your consultation and before your installation appointment:

  • Silk pillowcase

  • Silk scrunchie
